- Candidates must have a New York State Professional Initial Certificate, birth through 2nd grade, Pre-K through 6th Grade (which includes various college and additional course work), and Department of Education City License for public schools.
- You will also need to achieve qualifying scores on four examinations. Study and prepare by reviewing the New York State Teacher Certification tests (available in bookstores, the library, or online).
- Candidates for Group Teacher, Teacher/Director, and Education Director must meet initial certification requirements and additional requirements from the NYC Bureau of Day Care and Department of Health.
- Candidates who meet certain criteria can be conditionally approved by the Department of Health if they enroll in a Study Plan, which will provide a course outline toward obtaining certification.
