On the Agenda

CCI works to assure access to high quality, affordable early childhood services for every family that needs them. Currently on our agenda:

Advocates Respond to City Budget Cuts
Early care and learning advocates raised questions about the city’s proposals to cut $62 million from the Administration for Children’s Services budget.  In a letter to the Mayor's office, they urged the city to consider other strategies to better serve young children in public schools and community sites.

New Spotlight on Federal Policy as New President Takes Office
President-Elect Obama raised hopes in early childhood community with promises to invest $10 billion annually in early childhood education, including more funding for children under 3.  Advocates have created new advocacy campaigns to make sure early learning and care remain a high priority.

New Voices Champion Needs of Infants and Toddlers
Babies and toddlers are still don’t get the services they need, which often translates into expensive treatment later on that could have been prevented with quality services in the first three years of life.  The New York Zero to Three Network’s new report, Unequal from the Start: A Check-Up on New York City's Infants and Toddlers lays out the data and points the way to better policies.  CCI has hosted several meetings of the new Infancy Policy Circles, dedicated to advancing the needs of infants, toddlers and their families. Docs for Tots joins CCI in Project PedK, a campaign to get pediatricians to sign young children up for FREE PRE-K and other early care and education programs as part of their annual check-up.  CCI and Docs for Tots have produced posters and brochures to inform parents about how to enroll in public pre-k.
